Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., on Sunday compared Israel’s war against Hamas to the U.S. decision to drop atomic bombs on Japan in World War II during an interview on NBC News’ “Meet the Press.”
“When we were faced with destruction as a nation after Pearl Harbor, fighting the Germans and the Japanese, we decided to end the war by the bombing [of] Hiroshima [and] Nagasaki with nuclear weapons,” Graham said. “That was the right decision.”

Mafieux !
Republican members of the US House of Representatives are preparing a sanctions package targeting International Criminal Court (ICC) officials as a “precaution” against potential arrest warrants of Israeli officials for war crimes committed in Gaza, according to Axios.
“We want to emphasize to [ICC prosecutor Karim Khan] that going down this road of arrest warrants is a really bad idea, and it’s going to blow up the relationship,” House Foreign Affairs Committee Chair Michael McCaul told the US news outlet.
“We’re not sure if the arrest warrants are imminent, but it’s sort of a precaution to let them know that, if they do, we have this legislation ready to go. It won’t be put on the floor unless we have to,” he added.
McCaul emphasized the new package would come as a “companion” to legislation introduced last February in the Senate that seeks to sanction ICC officials “involved in probes of US allies who are not ICC members, such as Israel.”
The report by Axios comes on the heels of a harshly worded letter sent by a group of Republican senators to Khan, warning him against prosecuting Israeli officials for the genocide in Gaza.
“Target Israel and we will target you,” the senators tell Khan, adding that they will “sanction your employees and associates, and bar you and your families from the United States.”
The letter, a copy of which was obtained by the Zeteo website, concludes: “You have been warned.” It contains the signatures of 12 Republican senators, including Tom Cotton, Marco Rubio, and Ted Cruz.

In the article “Towards reimagined technical assistance: the current policy options and opportunities for change”, Alexandra Nastase and her colleagues argues that technical assistance should be framed as a policy option for governments. It outlines different models of technical assistance: Governments may choose from this spectrum of roles for technical advisers in designing assistance programs based on the objectives, limitations, and tradeoffs involved with each approach: “The most common fallacy is to expect every type of technical assistance to lead to capacity development. We do not believe that is the case. Suppose governments choose to use externals to do the work and replace government functions. In that case, it is not realistic to expect that it will build a capability to do (...)

Israel’s war against UNRWA didn’t start today, and it has nothing to do with Oct 7. It’s about Palestinian right of return .
A short thread:
In 2016, a right wing thing tank ’Kohelet’ published a “position paper” that labels UNRWA as an organisation that aids terror and therefore it should be eliminated and its workers should be prosecuted
In 2017, Avigdor Liberam, then the Minister of Foreign Affairs, asked the US to stop funding UNRWA, citing Kohelet’s "concerns ».
In 2018, Netanyahu was explicit about Israel’s motivations: “This is an organization that perpetuates the problem of Palestinian refugees, it also perpetuates the narrative of the right of return”.
The tactic of labelling organisations as ’terror organisations’ isn’t new. 2 yrs ago Israel used it against 6 human rights org at the West Bank and demanded that the EU and others stop funding them. This call was rejected as no evidence were provided.

The United States, the world’s second largest greenhouse gas emitter behind China, has seen a surge in investment for clean energy projects ranging from solar farms to wind turbines and electric vehicle battery factories in recent years.
But it has also grown into the globe’s biggest producer of oil and gas - the main source of climate emissions - following a technology-driven drilling boom in the sprawling Permian Basin in Texas and New Mexico.
